Student Name: Bilstone Katakwe
Major: Photography
Year of Study: Second Year
Academic Year: 2023

Project Genre: Studio Portraiture

Project Brief: For his second term brief, Bilstone had to shoot studio photos by using artificial light and art direction to communicate a particular concept. The emphasis of the project is on how to control light and the studio environment (e.g. wardrobe, props and setting) to communicate an idea.

He could choose between two briefs:

  1. An Exploration of the Body: In which elements of identity and narrative related to humanity (power, sex, gender, race, age, etc.) must be explored
  2. Fashion Editorial: Zamrock Renaissance: Produce an editorial series of fashion photos intended to be published in a magazine, newspaper or online platform. Zamrock was a famous and cultural music movement in Zambia in the 1970s: a mixture of traditional African music and psychedelic rock, garage rock, punk rock, metal, hard rock, blues, funk or folk. Some prominent Zamrock bands include WITCH, Ngozi Family, The Peace, Musi O Tunya, Salty Dog, and Amanaz.
